My grandmother's maiden name was Means. Her ancestors ended up in West Vriginia and I presume they were from the North, since I was always told they were what Americans call Scots Irish. Any information is appreciated.
my ancestors were John Halpin and Maria (Nee Owen / Owens / Cowan / Cowins in various sources).
John and Maria had one child in Drogheda - Lawrence - in the 1850s and then emigrated to Birkenhead, Cheshire and then Liverpool, Lancashire.
John and Maria's son Patrick Halpin (b1865) emigrated to Australia in the 1880s and he is my great-great-grandfather.
Im making a family tree and my great grandfather/grandmother were Francis and Bridget Tiernan on my mother/grandmother side Bridget/Christina Tiernan. They are in the 01/11 census for Mallahow/Naul area..Any information would be welcome.
I am trying to trace my in-laws' heritage in Co. Carlow. My great great grandmother's name was Julia Bridget O'Connor and she left Ireland for New York in 1904 from Queenstown. She followed her sister Annie (Nan) O'Connor and was eventually joined by other siblings James, John, Tom, Betty, Harriet, Brugha, and Ed. (This may not be all of them)
Her mother (name unknown) passed away and her father re-married before Julia left Carlow (both names unknown).
I am unsure what parish the family originated, just that they were from Carlow.

Whilst I instinctively feel I have located my family, via the Tithe Applotment Books, at Lower Kilcross, Inistioge, the only known fact is that my gt. grandfather Charles William ASH (born 1838 New Ross, Wexford) was a son of Francis ASH and Anne AUDLEY. There seem to be no earlier references to them, with no marriage event identified either.
My family has been searching for information of John McCloud (MacCloud). According to what we have been told is that he was born about 16 Feb 1799 in Ireland. He was to have left Ireland in 1816 boarding a ship named Barkey in Londonberry, Ireland with his siblings Anne, David, James, Mary and Neile. Arrival to the United States in New York is 14 August 1816. John then resided in West Virginia where he died 31 May 1877.
Looking for origin of Michael Smith, born @1820, arrived USA @1840, died in Galena, Illinois. Any help is appreciated.
