I'm trying to find the date and destination that any of my family that left Ireland. I have found that they lived in Kentucky in the 1850's and then migrated into Jones county IOWA USA. The family left around 1850 from Sraharla County Cork. Is there any way I can find when the James Hennesy and his family to come to the USA? If so who could I contact to get this information? Still looking. My ancestor James Hennesy? born in 1796 left Ireland with his wife Wlfe Ellen (Dunne) born in 1799 with their four or five children Maurice, Morgan, Thomas, Ellen and Michael who may have passed away on the trip to the US (Hennesy?) where their home was in Sraharla, county Cork around 1840-1845.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
It is very difficult finding ship departures in Ireland around the years of the Famine. Likely the family left from Queenstown. I assumeyou have not found any records of the family coming into an East Coast port or maybe New Orleans.
FYI. The townland spelling is Sraharla and the civil parish in Templemolaga.
Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

What would that reveal if anything? They had children baptized in Sraharla at the catholic church but disappeared after that until they showed up in Louisville, Kentucky where Ellen may have passed in 1855 ( and I can not verify) and two of their sons were married and had children baptized and I have verification and then the family showed up in Jones county, Iowa where I can trace my family to.

Here is a background piece on autosomal DNA testing.

The other option is Y-DNA testing which tracks your pure paternal line. The Y test is more expensive than autosomal.
You may match someone whom has more info on the Hennesseys.
