Hello.  I am coming to Ireland for the first week of July, this year.  My main reason for coming is because I found out that my ancestor (4th great-grandfather) Arthur Powell Hunt helped rescue some soldiers in Tramore Bay, 200 years ago from the Sea Horse shipwreck.  A local comittee is organizing a commemoration in honor of the lives lost, and the descendants of everyone involved.  I plan to attend and was even invited to play the bagpipes at the ceremony.  Arthur is the earliest ancestor I have from Ireland.  I know very little about him or his ancestors, or his wife's family.  I know he died December 25, 1864 in or around Tramore.  His wife's name was Mary Lane.  His son William (b. 1816) emigrated to Canada around 1847.  I believe Arthur had other sons who emigrated to Canada as well (Ralph b. 1818, John b. 1827, and Frederick b. 1831).  But William is my 3rd great-grandfather.  Anyway, I'm stuck at Arthur.  I can't find anything online before him.  I don't think he was Catholic, so he was probably Episcopal or possibly even Baptist.  He probably would have lived in Drumcannon Parish.  I would like to know where he was buried, where he lived, what church he went to, who his ancestors were, and who his wife's ancestors were.  I know those things are a long shot though. He is mentioned prominently in the following link, on pages 18,19,20, 25:

  • Hi there,

I went to www.rootsireland.ie and searched for baptismal records for all children of Arthur and Mary Lane but couldn't find any.

However I found a marriage record for an Arthur P Hunt to Mary Lane in the parish of Drumcannon Co Waterford on 22 Oct 1812.  They were both listed as Church of Ireland (protestant).  No information was given regarding parents.  I searched for Arthur's baptismal record but I can't find anything.

So sorry that I can't be of more assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Anne Dennehy

  • That's them! Thank you!  I had a marriage year, but not a date.  This is helpful.  Did it say in which church they were married?

  • I'd like to thank you again Nowel.  That hint on Cove Cottage and some social media posts has identified the home my ancestors lived in 200 years ago.  It still stands and I will be visiting in July!
