Hello,

I am seeking any/all information on my Kelty and McConnell lineage -- my maternal grandfather's line.  I have traced back as far as my great-great-grandparents: John Graham Kelty, born ca Sept 1854, Racavan, Antrim County, Ireland. Married ca 1877 to Agnes McConnell, born ca 7/3/1859 or 6/11/1857 in Broadlea, Glenwhirry, Antrim, Ireland.  

They emigrated to the United States ca. 1887 with two children, John McConnell Kelty b. 5/11/1879, Glenwhirry, Ireland and Rosetta Graham Kelty b. 3/8/1881, Glenwhirry, Ireland.  They had 6 additional children in Pittsburgh, PA, USA: Agnes Elizabeth b. 3/17/1888, James Alexander b. 10/27/1889, Margarett Jane McCullough b. 7/30/1891, William McNeely b. 10/27/1893, Thomas McConnell b.10/27/1895 (my great-grandfather), and Esther Barbara b. 10/4/1898.  

I would be interested in any information with respect to their immigration, marriage records, occupations, birth certificates, information/names of any additional ancestors in the line.

    John Keelty was born 11th May 1879 in Glenwhirry. Registered in Ballymena. His father was a labourer.

    Rosetta Keelty was born 8th March 1881 in Ballymoney St, Ballymena. The father was a publican by that stage. (He ran a bar).

    John Keelty’s marriage to Agnes McConnell was registered in Ballymena on 23.1.1878. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

    You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

    Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church which should be on the certificate (unless it was a Registry Office marriage). That church may be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings.

  • Thank you.  Lots of confirmation, and clarification which will hopefully help me to dig deeper into my family history.  I would think the change in spelling will also prove to be very helpful.
