I would be grateful for information about digitised versions of the parish records for Stradbally, Co Waterford from about 1840-1850. Does anyone know if there are good transcriptions available anywhere?

The images available on http://registers.nli.ie for that period are totally illegible.

I am trying to find a family with 5 brothers - surname Connors or O'Connor - who came from Stradbally.

Their father's name was Michael Connors. No information about mother's name.

If anyone can help, I would be most obliged.

Thank you.

  • Dear Fionnuala:

Many thanks for your post to Ireland Reaching Out and welcome to the website!

Unfortunately, the digitised versions of many of the parish registers are very poor due to the condition that the registers were in when microfilmed.

Roots Ireland database has the Stradbally parish records and has transcribed them.  They are a subscription site, but you can get a daily or monthly rate to look at them.   As you know where your ancestors came from, it may be worth taking out a small subscription to research them.   The link for the site is below:

After 1864, the Irish Genealogy website as the civil registration records which are free.

The link for that site is below:

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The best of luck with your research!

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Dear Jane

    Thank you for your help.

Do you know if there is any listing of what records are available on rootsireland before I pay a subscription?

Some websites that offer transcriptions are not complete - and because the records I am interested in are in poor condition, it may be that rootsireland have not transcribed them either! I think it would need an expert to be able to transcribe them...

    Thank you again
