Greetings from South Africa
My husband's ancestor was Charles Daly, born in Gort in 1832. His father (name unknown) was a bailiff to Earl Clanricarde and Charles emigrated to South Africa(Durban) in 1849. Despite his very colourful history in South Africa, his ancestors form a brick wall which I cannot penetrate!! I came upon this website by chance and would be thrilled if someone can remove a brick in my solid Daly wall!!

Thank you so much for trouble you are taking to help me find the kin of Charles Daly. Subsequent to my posting, a lister from Rootsweb sent me Charles Daly's Death Notice (1903). He died the year after his visit to his fatherland (as you rightly said, in 1902). A great piece of the puzzle, though, was slotted in with his father being listed as MARTIN DALY. Although I have no siblings' names, I do have his children's names and within them , there may a maiden name of his mother, or a sister's name (if he named a daughter after his sister.)
His children are as follows:
Martin George
William John
Eden Elizabeth
Senegal Kingsmith Charles (must be a clue in this name!!!!)
Nimrod Jerome
Redmond

A new supposition has come to light in my quest to find Charles Daly's birth and life in Ireland before emigrating to South Africa. Another relation in SA has mooted the possibility that Charles' surname was changed from O'Hanlon during 'the troubles' I don't know anymore - but maybe we can find a Martin O'Hanon who was one of Lord Clanricarde's bailiffs.
Any help would be appreciated.

My name is Frederick Daly,from Mahikeng in the North West province,we are also as a family trying to piece together the puzzle of our ancestry.We direct descendants of the great and colourful Charles Daly,but have very little information about him and would appreciate any information you may have.
