Hello,

We are coming to Ireland in 2 weeks time, and were thinking of looking for the places where our Great Great Grandparents came from.  We have been searching high and low for some information on Thomas Reynolds, but it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Thomas Reynolds was born in 1839, the son of Hugh Reynolds and Catherine McCafferty.  We are not sure what County he was born in but think that it could be County Meath.  He migrated with his parents to Scotland before 1869, as he then married Catherine Cannon in Scotland.

I realise that we have left this quite late to write to you, however, we have been trying unsuccessfully to find more information to go on.

Many thanks,

Patricia Quinn

If Col located the correct family in Kiltubrid parish in Leitrim then a record won't be available for Thomas since the parish records start in 1841  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0173

Reynolds is a very common surname in Leitrim. This website will show you the numbers from the Griffiths Valuation. The second highest county is Meath. http://www.swilson.info/sdist.php

The 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows a Hugh Reynolds in Derreen (Johnston) townland. You would need more evidence to determine if this is your ancestor.

  • HI Col and Roger,

Thank you both for searching for me regarding Thomas Reynolds.  It is great to find that we have most probably found the County that he came from and the possible sibling!!!

Also thank you for the links.    The first Thomas Reynolds would not be the correct one, as they would have already migrated to Scotland by then.

I have checked up on the possible sibling, Michael Reynolds, and he also migrated to Scotland to the same area and married a Scottish girl.

    Thank you again,

    Patricia Quinn
