Hello,

We are coming to Ireland in 2 weeks time, and were thinking of looking for the places where our Great Great Grandparents came from.  We have been searching high and low for some information on Thomas Reynolds, but it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Thomas Reynolds was born in 1839, the son of Hugh Reynolds and Catherine McCafferty.  We are not sure what County he was born in but think that it could be County Meath.  He migrated with his parents to Scotland before 1869, as he then married Catherine Cannon in Scotland.

I realise that we have left this quite late to write to you, however, we have been trying unsuccessfully to find more information to go on.

Many thanks,

Patricia Quinn

  • Hello,

I sent a message inquiring about the above Thomas Reynolds.   At the time, we were not sure of where he was born, however, we now have more information.  He was the son of Hugh Reynolds and Catherine (Mc)Cafferty.

HUGH REYNOLDS was born at Kiltubrid, Leitrim, Northern Ireland in 1819. He married Catherine Cafferty. There is no record of when the family emigrated to Scotland. It's likely  Catherine died in Ireland as there is no record of her in Scotland.

CATHERINE CAFFERTY died before 1851. Nothing is known about her.

    CHILDREN
    Thomas Reynolds b. 1839
    Patrick Reynolds b. 1846
    24. Michael Reynolds b.1841-1875
    John Reynolds b. c1838
All Children born in Kiltubrid, Leitrim, Ireland

We thought that they had lived or been born in County Meath before, but now know that this is not the case.  Could you please help us to find any more information on this family. This was my GGGgrandfather, and we would love to know more.

    Kind regards,

    Patricia Hallinan Quinn

  • Hi Pat!

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864. Only a few RC parishes have death records prior to 1864 but you are in luck (possibly) since Kiltubbrid RC parish has death records starting in 1847 and possibly you will find an annotation on Catherine  http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632444#page/1/mode/1up

Also, baptismal records for Kiltubbrid start in 1841.
