Looking for any information on the above two. Not sure if they are my family, but have marriage date for them of 10 October 1837 in Killinchy. Looking to see if they are the parents of William Thomson/Thompson who married Sarah Carr/Kerr in 1862 and then emigrated to New Zealand in the same year. If so they are my  x4 grandparents. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Cheers Dianne

  • Dianne,

Your post is on the Antrim board but, for information, Killinchy is actually some distance away in Co Down.

    What denomination was William Thomson?

  • Hi Elwyn,

I think he was Presbyterian, the marriage detail I have  for William and Sarah Kerr does not actually say, so still a work in progress.

    Thanks Dianne

  • KIllinchy Church of Ireland records start in 1819 and the non Subscribing Presbyterian records in 1812. No other denomination in the immediate area has records that cover 1835, so chances are the ceremony was ta one of those 2 churches. Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church so it’s likely that she was of whichever denomination the church was.

The church of Ireland baptism records for Killinchy are on-line (on rootsireland a subscription site), but the pre 1845 marriages are not. The NSP records are not on-line anywhere, so far as I am aware. There are however copies of both churches records in PRONI, the public record office in Belfast. Their copies are not on-line and so a personal visit is required to access them. If you are unable to go there yourself, you may need to employ a researcher.

This site has a lot of Co. Down material, you might find some reference to the families there:
