We are looking for birth or baptism records on Thomas Lodford Frizzle born 1810. He emigrated from County Antrim in 1830 according to his tombstone. He emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada. We know that his family was protestant and that he had three brothers and possibly one sister who all emigrated to Canada. Some ending up in English speaking Quebec. Confirmed sibling is William Frizzle who was born about 1819 in Antrim and was possibly baptised 10 Jan 1819 Donoghmore, Tyrone, Ireland. Robert Frizzle was born about 1802. Anne was a sibling (see below she could be connected to this record)  Thomas married Mary Nimmon Bell on May 2 1835 in St. Paul's Church in Prince Edward Island. They had 14 children who were all born in Prince Edward Island. Robert Frizzle (1836 - 1918), James Frizzle (1853 - 1874), Sarah Frizzle (1854- 1940). Easter Frizzle (1863 - 1955), Isabella (1860 - 1942), Alexander Frizzle (1858 - 1929), Margaret Jane (1850 - 1933), William Frizzle (1840 - 1929), Thomas (1842 - 1922), John Frizzle (1837 - 1961), Mary Frizzle (1838 - 1918), Elizabeth Frizzle (1844-1931), Samuel (1846 - 1931), Nicholas (1847 - 1931).

We have a possible connection to Anne Frizzle (sibling to Thomas) who was born on 20 Jan 1820. She was baptised on 24 Jun 1821 in Ruskcor, Ireland to William and Mary Frizzle. She married William Forbes on 12 Jun 1840 at St. Michaels' church in Castlecaufield Parish of Donoghamore, Diocise of Amagh, County Tyrone.

We are connected to Ancestry and have about 1400 Frizzell's so far but we have been unable to find Thomas's parents and sibling records. Your help would be most appreciated.

  • Dear Ronald:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.

You might consider making contact with PRONI in Belfast.  They would have a number of very good resources for family history research in Northern Ireland.  In addition, they have a good online collection that is worth viewing.

    Their website is:  https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/information-and-services/leisure-home-and-c….

The very best of luck with your research.  Please keep checking back as someone may be able to add further information to your post.

In addition, you might consider adding a member of the Frizzell family to the Ireland XO Chronicles.

If you have any questions, please contact us.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Ronald,

I'm following this thread and searching for Thomas as well. You've got some great data that I haven't seen before. My descent is through John b. 1837 and his son, William b1861 who married Sarah Emily Key and emigrated to Massachusetts.

Thomas was a member of the Presbyterian church on PEI which was the denomination of St. Pauls, I believe.

I recently requested and received from PRONI an 1830 Will, #T662/117, a Thomas Frizzell who left his "chattel property" to his wife (unnamed), and daughters (Ann, Mary, Ellen, and Betty). The will was dated 1 May 1828 and executed 1830. James Fleming of Irishtown Parish of Antrim & Samuel Clugston of Antrim were named executors. Witnesses included: William Dalrymple, Robert Clugston, and William Clugston. It doesn't connect to my research at the moment and I mention as negative evidence.

    Go raibh maith agat,

  • The original post here mentions a William Frizzle of Ruskcor. There is a record of him in Griffiths Valuation in 1860. He is listed as William Frizzell and he had a 10 acre farm on plot 10 in the townland of Reaskcor. Today that farm is up a lane off Reaskcor Rd, outside Castlecaulfield.

The Valuation revision books take Griffiths forward and they show that William was replaced by Richie Frizzell in 1872. He in turn was replaced by Joseph Williamson in 1889.

There were no Frizzells living in the townland by the 1901 census:

There’s a marriage for Ritchie Frizzle of Reaskcor to Ann Cardwell on 31.1.1868. He was described as a pensioner which, at that time, would have indicated he had served in the army. His father was William Frizzle, farmer.

This looks to be that family in the 1901 census. They had evidently moved from Tyrone to Co. Meath:

They had left Meath by the 1911 census and were back in Co Tyrone, in the townland of Tullyblety:

  • Ronald,

You and I seem to be researching the same family.  Thomas Lodford Frizzle is my 3rd great grandfather.  You are showing the supposed siblings of Thomas however I wondered where you found the information.  Please contact me through ancestry.com (my user name is dfrizzell144) so we can share data.

    Thanks,

    Doug
