If your Ancestors are on the 1841 census for the above location, which church/graveyard would you visit if you were intending to visit the place.  I am looking to visit next weekend and know from the 1841 census this is where my 4th Gt grandfather was living, and his son was still living come the 1911 census.  Surname connected is Hamilton .

  • Thank you Roger.  I cannot wait, going to Cavan as I say and also visiting Drumbrisny, Leitrim where my Gt Grandparents are from.  Just remembered I have another ancestor from Cavan - Kilsob, Templeport, surname Reilly (only know they were born there though ! This side of the family are Catholic so a little bit easier (!) - the Hamilton family from Corhanaugh I do not know which denomination they were - my 3rd Gt Grandfather was part of the police force, as was his brother (that's how I know the 1841 census is my family - states a son, policeman, in England).  After my visit to Ireland I am flying to Salt Lake City to go to the Archives - research all the way!!

I know I'm reading an old post, but hope you are still following, You mentioned that you were visiting Drumbrisny.  My gggrandfather was John McGrath & he was from Drumbrisny, Roscommon. What is your ancestor's name that lived there?I was wondering if you got to visit there as I am going there soon. Do you have any tips or information on Drumbrisny?

    Hope you get this!

    Hi Lyn,

Just seen your message.  I did get to visit Drumbrisny.   My ancestors are McCormacks, the sister to my Gt Grandmother married a McGrath.   I think  there are some connections here!  Would love to see if our ancestry interconnects somewhere.   My ancestors are buried in Keardue near Kilronan Castle, a lovely location.

    Hi Jac2308

I am so glad you got my post. I just got back from Ireland and I did get to Drumbrisny. I stopped in front of one of the houses on the road in Drumbrisny and the owner came out to talk to me. She was very nice and told me she was a McLoughlin also with ties to the McGraths. She gave me a phone number for the McGrath who still lives there. I think everyone who lived in Drumbrisny is related through marriage!

I'd like to see if our trees connect too. I would like to give permission for the administrator of this site to give you my email address to contact me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Lynn
