Hi There,

As my husband and I plan for our trip to Ireland I am in search of both our Irish roots.

In this post I am looking for my Husbands side. The O'Reilly's of Cavan

My husband is of O'Reilly decent on his mothers side, and German on his Dads ... we know very little as he was adopted.

His birth name was Michael John O'Reilly ( he has his Mothers maiden Name at birth ). He was was born in the Ottawa Valley of Carleton in 1967. He was adopted 6 months later by a German decent ( Catholic Family ) also living in the Ottawa area.

He also has a striking resemblance to Cal and Ryan O'Reilly NHL Hockey players .. but have had little luck researching this lead.

I am looking for both his birth mother who would be an O'reilly and most likey living in the Ottawa area. And if she is anything like my husband she would be both very bright ( high IQ ) and extremely kind hearted.

Would love to find where the O'Reilly's of Ottawa Valley lived in Cavan ...  and if they are any living relatives back in Ireland that connect back to the Ottawa Valley O'Reilly's.

Any leads would be grateful, Regards Alane

  • Hello Alane, What a treasure Michael has in you.  I know how difficult it must be to be searching for answers but unfortunately this site will not be able to help you in your search.  As we are a genealogy site trying to help the Irish diaspora in finding their roots, we cannot help in any queries within a hundred years or so.  I'm so sorry that we cant help you in your search.

Perhaps you should try a site called "adoptee connect".  This might yield more information to you.

We wish you well on your journey,

    KInd regards,

    Anne Dennehy

  • Dear Anne, Thank you so much for your reply.  I have checked out the adoptee connect site will see what I kind find there.

We are still looking for the O'Reilly clan of Cavan though as we are planning a trip to Ireland in the spring of 2017.

Any thoughts on which area I should look ?

    Regards Alane
