Julia is my husbands 2 great grandmother.
I have her married in Wicklow but all her children born in Bendigo Victoria Australia.
The records show her name spelt as Canavan
But the only records I have found in Co Clare, Ireland, that could connect to her the surname is spelt Cavanagh.
Could some one clarify the possilbe inversion of the sylables in the expression of a surname?
She and her husband family's were illiterate and signed with a X so would not know if their name was spelt correctly or not.
Actually her husband Michael Kearns spelt his surname in Australia as Kairns so same there.

I searched on Roots Ireland in Co. Wicklow for potential baptismal records. I found an 1821 and 1829 records for Judith Canavan. I would treat these records as leads since you don't know the parents names.

I like the sound of the Ist one as it was said her parents were James and Hester but wrong county that was why I did not use them as the bases for my tree.
Included in her childrens names were James and Ettie.
Actually armed with this record distant family in Bendigo now confirm father James and mother Ettie Doyle,
So I will move my search to Wicklow for the while,
