Hello, I'm Dan Green and I am looking to find any sources of records of my GGD Hugh Green, a constable in Donegal. I believe he was born in Cavan in 1842-44, joined the RIC at 23, and married in donegal to a Maggie McCahill.  He had a son Hugh Green in Glenties in 1880. The younger Hugh eventually made his way to Glasgow (Maryhill, Clyde Bank areas) where he married in 1904. Any info available for constable Hugh Green and his family would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for any assistance provided!

This forum may be helpful in your search for Hugh Green. http://irishconstabulary.com/

I looked for Hugh and Maggie in the 1901 census in Donegal. Were they still in Donegal in 1901?

I searched for a marriage record in Donegal but could not find a record.

  • Rodger, thanks for the link! I believe that Hugh Green retired back to Cavan, as I found an RIC pensioner in black lion, Tuam in the 1901 census, - BUT he is listed as "not married"? , and with two sisters? So I'm not too sure about this gent!

In his sons wedding cert in 1904 in Glasgow, to Janet Docherty, it would appear that Maggie McCahill has been deceased for a while. Yet I have been unable to find an Irish or Scottish death certificate for her. Like you, I have not been able to find Maggie's wedding cert in Donegal either, but I do know that they were in Glenties a few years as Hugh was mentioned a few times in the local court petty sessions..  And their son Hugh lists Glenties as his birthplace in his soldiers paperwork.  I'm now off to investigate your provided link thanks again!
