Hello! I am searching for more info on my 2nd great grandfather, Patrick Crorkin. He was born in Williamstown, Galway, Dec 6, 1869. His parents were Patrick Crorkin and Catherine (possibly Catherinam) Martin. Patrick and Catherine had several children, mostly born in County Monaghan, where they seemed to live most of their time in Ireland. Patrick (b1869) immigrated to the US about 1889, and married Ellen Coyle. I am hoping to find any info on Patrick, and his parents.

  • Hello Karen S,

As you have been previously advised we are all dependent upon what is actually contained within the actual entry on the civil registration, in providing further information. The entry http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-perform-search.jsp?namefm=&namel=Crorkin&exact=&name2fm=&name2l=&location=&yyfrom=&yyto=&century=1800&decade=&sort=&pageSize=100&ddBfrom=&mmBfrom=&yyBfrom=&ddMfrom=&mmMfrom=&yyMfrom=&ddDfrom=&mmDfrom=&yyDfrom=&ddPfrom=&mmPfrom=&yyPfrom=&ddBto=&mmBto=&yyBto=&ddMto=&mmMto=&yyMto=&ddDto=&mmDto=&yyDto=&ddPto=&mmPto=&yyPto=&locationB=&locationM=&locationD=&locationP=&keywordb=&keywordm=&keywordd=&keywordp=&event=&district=Glenamaddy&submit=Search can be purchased using the guide notes http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/i-want-to-get-a-copy-of-a-certificate-what-do-i-do .

Martin is a common name in Galway though there do not appear to be any headstones in the two cemeteries in the Williamstown area and she no doubt is from an area west of Williamstown. The actual Civil Birth should open up the areas you are looking to research.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on Roots Ireland and was not able to locate a marriage record or baptismal records for other siblings. I searched for abaptismal record for the father and located a baptismal record on February 22, 1852 in the Tydavnet RC parish in Co. Monaghan. Parents were Thomas Crorkin and Elizabeth Camble. Not confident that this is the father of the 1869 Patrick since he would have married around 17.

  • Hi Karen, I know it may be a long shot but on the other side - the Martins - I show this in my family:

1825 Bridget Martin born (future Mrs. Patrick Carey - my line) in Galway.   They emigrated and eventually settled in Necedah Wisconsin ...where she passed away in 1889...

So possibly another branch, another string of cousins..It may help or not with your searches.

  • Roger,

Funny (strange) thing is....I just found a Baptismal record for Catherina Martin, in Monaghan....May 17, 1851. Here's the problem....Not only was my Patrick (son) born in 1969, but he has two younger siblings. The youngest was born in 1865! She would have been 14, and the Patrick you found would've been about 15, when their youngest child was born....???? Not completely impossible...but WOW! I know son Patrick was born in 1869, and his parents were a Patrick Crorkin, and Catherine Martin, as listed on his death certificate in Chicago (Cook County). I am 100% confident I have the correct Patrick Crorkin (born Dec 6, 1869).

Also, on this Catherina Martin's church record/log her father is Laurentis (from what I can read). I can't make out her mother's name, as the entry is at the bottom of the page, and her name is in the corner of the page, which is discolored.

  • Hello from New Zealand! I am also tracing the surname MARTIN - on her marriage certificate in 1856 in Australia, Honora MARTIN says she is the daughter of Patrick MARTIN and Hannah FORD and birth place as Galway. I haven't been able to find out anything about her parents or her arrival in Australia, although it appears other family members might have come out with her as Mary MARTIN and ???? MARTIN witnessed the marriage.
