I am searching for information about my gg-grandfather, Thomas Corridon. He was born in Ireland in the 1830s and emigrated to Massachusetts, United States around 1850. I have no knowledge of his birthdate, place of birth, parents, or siblings. He was married to Mary Flaherty (daughter of John and Bridget Flaherty). They lived in Adams, Massachusetts and later lived near Albany, New York. I understand that there were very few Corridons in all of Ireland at that time--and nearly all were located in County Kerry. I have read that the lineage is originally from County Clare and that Philip Corridon settled in Ballyheigue, County Kerry around 1650.  I would love to communicate with anyone with knowledge about the Corridon families of County Kerry in the 1800s.

Thanks!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

www.irishgenealogy.ie has church records for Co. Kerry. I did a search for Thomas Corridon (and variants) 1825-1840 and came up with three baptismal records plus other records where a Thomas Corridon was a parent or sponsor

Was the marriage in Ireland or the USA?

  • Thank you Roger! I will look into these records. I am not certain, but I think that the couple were married in the USA. However, I haven't yet been able to document their marriage.

  • Hi!  My ggrandmother was Elizabeth Corridon.  Per her marriage record in Indianapolis, she was born 1861, Keelmacada, Kerry, near Ballyheigue.  There is a cemetery there just for the family, and a legend about a light that shines on the bay when a member of the family dies.  Her father was Thomas and her mother Catherine Flynn.  Baptismal records at ireland.ie led me to them, and she has siblings john, Joanna, Phillip, James, Catherine, and Mary.  I cannot find the rest of her family in the US.  There was someone who I think is an uncle in Indiana at the same time, Phillip.  He had a son named Thomas as well.
