Hello,

I am researching my 5th Great Grandmother and Grandfather William Murnane b. 1768  and Ellen b. 1768.  Through Ancestry.com.au i am led to believe they are possibly from this Parish?

William and Ellen (Keogh) children were

Jeremiah b. 1793

Cornelius Patrick b. 1796

Michael b. 1806

John b. 1807

Patrick b. 1808

Thomas b. 1808

I belieave that William was sent as a convict on the Three bees to Australia in 1814 and then three of his sons Michael, Patrick and Thomas in 1836 were also sent to Australia as convicts on the Earl Grey.

I would love to know if there is any other family and who William and Ellen's parents were and any siblings of theres?

Thank you in advance for any information!

    Hi Tamzine,

My wife and I are from Armagh but living in Melbourne for the past 30 years and we have some friends travelling back to Ireland with us at the end of August. One of them, Lindi, is a Murnane. I asked her last week to ask her dad if he knew where his family came from and we could maybe follow it up when we get home.

It seems the list of Murnanes was on a champagne flute so there is not a lot of detail. I received the attachment from her and searched for William and Ellen and found your post. I think Lindi's dad John is from the same family you are looking for information about. Unfortunately that list seems to be the only details uncovered so far but Lindi is going to speak again with her dad to get some more australian family history so I might have some more information for you soon.

  • Hi  Tamzine, my emails to you keep coming back saying you don’t have an account with ‘yahoo.com.au’. Therese

  • Hi there, I know this is an old thread- but hoping someone might still have some information? William and Ellen are my great x4 grandparents (via their son Michael).

If you have any information on their ancestry, we'd love to know.

    Thank you

    Rachel

(Coincidently I was a few months ago on holiday in Ireland, from Australia, climbed to the top of the hill at Lough Gur and found the 'Murnane Family' bench. We were very excited to find this surname there! And are only now just realising our ties to Ballybricken, and are kicking ourselves for missing the opportunity to research there in person!)
