I am searching for information on my O'Loughlin family. My great grandfather was Michael O'Loughlin. The only information I have is that he was from Limerick Ireland. Unfortunately I have no information on parents or if he had any siblings. I know this is precious little to go on but any information that may be available would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Kathy

P.S. I forgot to include his birth date which was 24 June 1847

  • Dear Kathy

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

It is as you say very little to go on! Do you have a broad time scale that you could work with - if so you could check out Roots Ireland or Family Search and see what they come up with. There is only one Michael O'Loughlin listed in the Griffith's Valuation in 1850 for Co. Limerick - but it would not be possible to say if he is your Michael or not. Really we would need either a more specific place name or a spouse, sibling, parent name. Perhaps a witness on a marriage cert or a sponsor's name on a baptism will be a name that you recognise.

You can see the Griffith's result mentioned above, here:

  • Clara, Thank you so much. I know that I was hoping for a miracle with such little information. I will continue to search and maybe I will be able to squeeze some information from somewhere. None of my mother's generation really knew him as he was murdered in 1883 in O'Neill, Holt Co, Nebraska, USA and his spouse, Bridget Murphy O'Loughlin died in 1910 before my mother was even born. This may remain a mystery but I will continue to look.

    Thank you for your help.
