Hello,

I am looking for information on RICHARD FARRELL of Barry, Longford.

Born about 1818.

Wife possibly named Margaret (unknown maiden)

Two children, a son, unknown name and a daughter.

RIchard immigrated to NYC in 1882, possibly after his wife died and because he had children in the US.

By 1891 he was placed in Blackwell's Island, an almshouse in NYC. Documentation states he was a widower, had two children - son 7 daughter living in US. States that he was ill, homeless and destitute.

I am trying to work backward to confirm that Richard is my 3 GGF. (I do know that my 2GGM is Johanna Farrell, I am looking to see if I can somehow track down baptismal records in Barry, Longford for Johanna, and if so, to see if RIchard is her father, who her mother and siblings might be.)

Hope this made sense. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you might be able to point me in!

Barry is in Taghshinny civil parish. The corresponding RC parish would be Carrickedmond/Abbeyshrule. Here is a link to the current church.

I looked at the 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Taghshinny parish. There were Farrells in Barry but no Richard. There was a Richard Farrell in the nearby parish of Taghsheenod (just north of Taghshinny).

I checked the Roots Ireland indexes for Carrickedmond and found five baptismal records with parents Richard and Susan ( I know you thought Margaret). The five children were:

    Mary 1848, John 1850, Margaret 1851, B. 1855 and Patrick 1856.

Again these are leads. I think I mentioned in another note that the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching later this summer.

    Any questions?
