Hi,
I am searching for information regarding my Great Great Grandfather, Cornelius Kelly. Spouse Elizabeth(?).Son, James Kelly born circa 1833 died 18/10/1901 in Australia. Married Ann Garland, died 1910. The only information I have is that they arrived in Australia in 1856. Any information would be appreciated as I hope to travel to Ireland later this year.
Regards
Margie

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I could not find a baptismal record for a James Kelly from 1828-1838 with a father Cornelius. I did locate an 1855 marriage record in the Rahan RC church (see below). Likely Ann was from this parish. The 1853 Griffiths Valuation survey for Rahan parish shows a Patrick Garland in Newtown civil parish. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/offaly/rahan.htm

Hello Geraldine
How lovely to hear from you. I live in Brisbane Australia and will be travelling to Ireland next year. Would love to meet you and would appreciate any information that you are able to find. I have been able to find Baptismal records for Cornelius Kelly's children : James (14 April 1833),Cornelius (15 Sept 1837),Julia (26 Feb 1840), Mary (29 sept 1842). I have also the marriage record for James Kelly ( my ancestor) and Anne Garland (25 Nov 1855).
I have also the Baptismal record ( 24 May 1829) for Anne Garland daughter of Samuel Garland and Rose Geoghegan.
I know that Baptisms were in the Parish of Rahan and Lynally.
I would love to know the Township in which they lived and any information about them that you are able to find.
Again thank you so much for your reply and I hope to meet you when I travel to Ireland.
Regards

Hello Geraldine
How lovely to hear from you. The trip to Ireland has been postponed for a while. My husband had a fall and is having treatment so overseas travel is not possible at present. I haven't been able to find out anymore information on Cornelius and Anne. Hope all is well with you.
Cheers

Hi! My ggg grandfather is Patrick Garland of Newtown. I have been researching his family lately. He married Margaret Keys in 1831 Rahan and had these hildren: John b. 1832, Mary b. 1833, Frances b. 1836, Anne b. 1838, Joseph b. 1840, James b. 1844, and Ellen b. 1850, my gg grandmother (Ellen is unconfirmed, but DNA connects her to her sisters Mary and Anne, as well as other Keys ancestors from Rahan). Sisters Ellen, Ann, and Mary and mother Margaret moved to New York City in the 1860s. I have written a paper on it, if you are interested.
I wonder if Samuel Garland is a brother of Patrick Garland. There aren't many other Garlands in that area. I'd be interested to know if you've done a DNA test. My dad has done all the major tests. I also have access to match lists of two other descendants on the Garland line.
Thanks,
Adrienne Smith

Hello Adrienne
Geraldine Buckley-Smith here
I would really love to read your paper if you dont mind. I am originally from Newtown, Rahan, which is a very small palce.
my email is geraldinebsmith@gmail.com if you would send your paper to me.
Samuel s wife was Rose and in the Griffith Valuations c1854, Rose is a landholder in Mucklagh, which would be about 5/6 miles from Newtown. Samuel must be deceased at this time.
It is very likely that Samuel and Patrick are brothers because Garland is not a common name in Rahan at all.
Yes I have done my DNA, kit number A054058 and my brother is A674041, what is your kit number Adrienne please
Looking forward to hearing from you and I will do more research into the Garland family in the meantime

Geraldine,
I would be happy to send you my paper and discuss Garland families with you! I sent you an email offline. I did check Gedmatch for your kit and your brother's kit, but there was no match.
Thanks,
Adrienne
