Hello - I am trying to find any information about any of the families connected to Patrick Dix B1810 -D1892 , Honor Connolly B 1810 - D 1895 married 16/06/1834 in Tullamore  and their children John B 1834 , Mary B?, Joseph B1848, Peter B1844 and maybe a Catherine & Patrick B? or more.

John Dix married Ann Tappito [have several different spelling of her name]  3 Oct 1857 in Ballard, Tullamore and they had a son Thomas  B 29 Aug 1858 and then moved to Western Australia and later on had another 10 children. Ann died in 1880 and John remarried Julia higgins and had two more children, he died 1 Sept 1918 in Moora, Western Australia.

Mary Dix married Michael McDonald  B1841 [Army Pensioner] about 1864 and they had 11 children, Kathleen, Peter, Joseph, Edward, Patrick, Vincent, Mary & 4 children which I don't know their names.

Joseph Dix D26 Oct 1922 in Ballard was married 1874 to Marcella Payne B1849 - D2 Oct 1929 and they had 7 children - Margaret Ann B1887, Margaret B1879 , Marcella B1891 - D1896 , Mary B1876, Elizabeth 1880 , Thomas B1882 & Patrick B1875.

Peter Dix D 15 April 1893 married Mary Coffey B1863 married 12 Nov 1882 and they had 4 children - Catherine B1885, Mary Ann B1887, Bridget Margaret B1888 & Lizzie B1884. Peter was a soldier but died in the Union Workhouse. A number of Dix's families appear to live in Charleville Street - I not 100% sure but I think that was where the Poorhouse was.

I would like to know more about any of these families or their connections in Ballard / Tullamore and would happy to exchange information about my 2x GGfather John Dix life in Moora, Western Australia. I am sorry to say I know nothing about Ann Tappito family in Tullamore at all. Please excuse any mistake in the above - I have try to check most facts but like everyone I do get it wrong some times.

Cheers

  • Hi again     Found some of the Dixfamily  in the 1841 Census for Ballard, Lynally, Ballycowen, Kings Co and it appears I have mess up

    Patt Dix [Head] B 1801 age 40

    Onney Dix [Wife} B1805 age 36

    Catherine B 1828 age 13

    Pat Dix B 1831 age 10

    Peter Dix B 1834 age 7

    Patrick Dix [Father]

    Honor Connolly [Mother]

No sign of my 2x GG father John Dix  B 1831 or 1834 - son of Patrick. He was definely born in Ballard. I think that maybe Mary & Joseph are children of Patrick Dix B 1837, it confusing with 3 Patrick Dix.

    Thank you for any help

  • Hi Roger McDonnell   [ Castlemore Roscommon]

Hoping to hear from the parish liaison in Tullamore but I realize that information may be hard to find - is there any more details which I may send which would help? I do have John Dix & Anne marriage cert details from the Irish Family History Foundation site and yet another spelling variation on Ann surname - Tabiten [?]. Also on her son's Thomas B/cert the spelling is 'Tapytoe'.

    Cheers

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I will contact our HQ staff and ask them to check with the Tullamore parish liaison.

Do you have the 1901 and 1911 census reocrds for your families?

Are you aware that the Irish government has released the images of civil records and they can be accessed for free at www.irishgenealogy.ie? Births start in 1864, marriages start 1882 and deaths in 1891. They plan to go bak earlier on deaths and marriages in the future.
