This may be hopeless, but I am looking for information about the family of John Dillon b. 1832 in Waterford or for the family of his wife, Anastasia Rourke.

There is a will for an Anastasia Kirby published in the Brooklyn Eagle b. Nov 2, 1842 that lists an extended family in Waterford, Ireland that includes her grandmother Elizabeth Rourke (abt. 1808), Mary Rourke (abt. 1811), John Rourke (1806) and my ancestor Anastasia Rourke (1805), who married Patrick Dillon (b. 1800?).

Anastasia Rourke and Patrick Dillon had a large family including Michael Dilllon (1829), Mary Dillon (1830), Edward Dillon (1830), my ancestor John Dillon (1832), James Dillon (1835), Henrietta Dillon (1838), Elizabeth Dillon (1838), Anastasia Dillon (1844), Patrick, William, Mary and Hannah Dillon (??).

My branch of the family settled in the Green Point neighborhood of Brooklyn NY and spawned a number of other families (Hanrahan, McNamara, Driscoll?) along with Dillon families, each of which seemed to have an Anastasia Dillon.  My G-grandmother Anastasia Dillon b. 1859, married Edward Cade in Brooklyn and had a daughter Anastasia Cade b. 1897 whom I remember well, although my own grandmother was her younger sister Edna Cade (b. 1901).  "My" John Dillon worked as a glass cutter in one of the glass factories in Green Point, Brooklyn NY.

Again, I realize that there were MANY John Dillons from this area  of Ireland, but it would be great if anyone recognizes this family and can provide additional information!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked Roots Ireland and was not able to find the marriage record but did find nine baptismal records. Your family was from Waterford town. Transcriptions for three of the baptismal records are below. The records I found are as follows: James 1826 Mary 1830 John 1832 Patrick 1834 Edward Patrick 1836 Elizabeth 1838 Anastasia 1841 Ann Mary 1842 William Joseph 1844   You will note that the records don't totally match your names and the years of birth differ in some cases.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • May I ask for additional help with the family of John Dillon (date of baptism 11-Jun-1832, a son of Patrick DillonMother and Anastasia Rourke)?

I have been matched to a cousin who is a member of the Daly family--I suspect that there was a relationship between her John Patrick “Pat” Dailey/Daly, and the wife of "my" John Dillon, Ellen Daly Dillon.  I believe that she was born in Ireland in about 1840 and likely married John before migrating to the US in the late 1850s.

All I have is that this John Patrick “Pat” Dailey/Daly, was born  in Ireland in 1823 and died in the US 1883-5 (this information is combined from various sources).  I would imagine that they were from the Waterford area, although this is a guess

DO you have any documents to suggest that Joh Dillon and Ellen F Daly were married in Ireland, and the names of her parents?  Of course if there is also a baptismal record for John Patrick Daly with these same parents, that would be ideal :)

Many thanks in advance for your help

    Best, Ray

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!

I remember this post and I'm surpised that four years have past.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a John Dillon marriage to a Daly around the 1850s.

There are probably 15-20 Ellen Daly baptismal records in Co. Waterford around 1840. I assume you don't have parents names.
