My ggrandmother Esther J. Scott was born on April 7, 1833. Her parents were John Scott and Mary Dardis. Her place of birth was either Millown a small town or the parish. She had a sister named Catherine. She also had a brother named Patrick, whose mother may or maynot be Mary Dardis. She came to the USA about 1842 or 1843. Both her and her brother lived in the same town in Upstate NY. Can anyone tell me about the parish or the town of Milltown, where she was born? Does it still exist? Her father may have been born in Scotland and lived in Ulster at one time. Any information would be helpful, J. Shaughnessy

  • Janet:

There are four townlands called Milltown and then a town called Milltown. The Milltown you found was actually the Catholic parish of Milltown. The specific civil parish is likely Rathconrath.

I checked on Roots Ireland and found the 1826 marriage record for John and Mary in Milltown RC. I also located four baptismal records:

    Thomas 1826

    Patrick  1828

    Catherine 1831

    Esther 1833

The mother was Mary in all records.

Let me know if you have any questions.
