I am looking for my ggfather John Quest born April,1834. I do not know parents name or siblings name. Came to USA about 1858 lived in Maytown, Illinois, USA. I have seen a John Quest in Griffith’s Valuation. I have recently tracked through Catholic parish baptismal & marriage records a list of various Quest’s living in Kilkenny West, Ballymore (civil - Ballymore & Killare) Castletown-Geoghegan (Castletownkindalen & Newtown),  Moyvore (Piercetown & Templepatrick), Mulligar, and Milltown (Kilmacnevan & Rathconrath) during 1830-1879. Some Quest’s were still living and recorded on Irish 1901 & 1911 census records.

Westmeath genealogy society has previously searched for him in catholic parish baptismal records as well -no success. Looking for more ideas on how to find ggrandfather’s parents name and how I could find a source for any Quest’s still in Ireland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated in my Quest.

I saw a family tree on Ancestry (owner is T Eccles) with a John Guest/Quest in Maytown who was 50 in the 1880 census which puts his year of birth around 1830. A few of those RC parishes you mention had records starting in 1829. If he was actually born in 1828 or earlier no record for his baptism would exist iff he was from one of those parishes.

I also looked at the Tithe listings and there were three records in Westmeath and one in Meath. (see below)

Another alternative to consider is autosomal DNA testing which may result in a match with another Quest descendant who has more info on the family.
