Hello everyone,

I know this parish isn't online yet but I wanted to introduce myself and reach out for other connections.

I am interested in any connections regarding Gannon's in New Ross, Co. Wexford. My GGGrandfather was born in New Ross in the 1860's. He was Michael James Gannon. He married Anastatia O'Shea, also of New Ross.

I also have Ryan's in my family, again from New Ross.

I know quite a bit about the family after they emigrated to California in 1906. I know a bit (not as much) about the family before they left. I would love to make a connection with anyone tracing the same lines (and maybe even find some cousins!).

Bests,

Baidra

  • Hello Baidra,

This parish will be become very active soon hopefully Baidra- we are having our national launch tomorrow!

You could check for the Gannon's in the census records for 1901 which is freely available online. You could also check the land records called Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) and the earlier Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38). Both of these should offer more information, especially as you have the name and a good idea of the location the couple were from.

After checking all of these records, you might then have a better idea of a date of birth, and you could then check baptismal records, etc. from the General Register Office (GRO).

This will keep you going for a while, and hopefully more people from the local community will be bale to give you more details in time.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

    Genealogist (Ireland XO)
