Courier (Brisbane, Qld. : 1861 - 1864), Friday 20 February 1863, page 2 THE WANATA. The whole of the passengers by this vessel were brought up to Brisbane yesterday in the steamers Brisbane and Samson. In all they number 636 individuals, about one-half of whom come out under the auspices of the Queensland Immigration Society. They seem a very respectable class of people, and are all in excellent health. Only seven deaths occurred during the passage, all of which - with the single exception of a young man who was ill with consumption before he embarked were infants. But as a sort of counterbalance to this mortality, there were five births. This vessel is remarkable for having brought the largest number of immi-grants ever landed on our shores from one ship, and also, when everything is taken into consideration, for the small number of casualties. We furnish the following particulars by the courtesy of one of the passengers : "The Wanata left London November 2, Queenstown November 12, crossed the Line December 8, was in the longitude of the Cape in January 2, and made the run from thence to Tasmania in 28 days. Here she encountered adverse winds, which greatly impeded her course, but up to this period favourable winds and smooth seas were the characteristics of everyday. Land was sighted February 11, and the anchor was dropped off the Light-house on Thursday, February 12, thus completing the voyage from Queenstown in 91 days. The very large number of passengers conveyed by her have arrived in the most satisfactory state of health, even the temporary ailings during the voyage being much below the average, and the casualties very few, and, with one exception, all of these were young and weakl
