Benjamin Prittie 1828

Back to List

Benjamin Prittie was born to Oliver and Tryphania Hayes Prittie in 1828. His birthplace that was noted on his death record of 1911 was Dublin, Ireland but no proof of this has been found.

His family was from the Silvermines/Mucklin area of County Tipperary as most of the Prittie's from that time were from there.

Benjamin with parents and siblings immigrated to Canada in 1832. Ben's paternal grandparents were Richard and Ann Prior Prittie of Silvermines.  Like his father, Benjamin moved quite a bit.  A carpenter by trade, he lived in Ontario and Quebec as well as Lewis County, New York.  He eventually settled in Whitemouth, Manitoba where he is buried. Benjamin had two wives, Elizabeth Wenborne (Winburn) and Cynthia Howey.  Ben had at least 10 children with them.
