Bridget Myres was born in 1867, the daughter of Thomas Myres and Hannah McCarthy. Her birth was registered on February 8, 1867 in the district of Kildorrery, District of Mitchelston, Cork.
Bridget, Hannah(mother) and two brothers, Thomas(b.1869) and John or Patrick, arrived in Australia in 1886 on the ship 'Dorunda'. Thomas (father) remained at Ballingairoe with another son. Four older daughters sailed to America.
Bridget and her family settled in Ipswich, in what is now the State of Queensland. In 1890, Bridget married John Cuthbert. John established his own plumbing business which was very successful. John and Bridget had 7 children - 3 girls and 4 boys.
The fourth child of Bridget and John, Lloyd Oswald, was my grandfather. His grandfather, Robert, had arrived in New South Wales as a sailor on 'The Lady MacDonald' in 1856. He also married an Irish girl from Cork - Margaret Begley.
