  • Hello Orla!  I hope you've had a good day.  My name is Linda. Bridget Phibbs was my Great-grandmother and James Phibbs was my 2X Great-grandfather.  I'm sorry I don't have any information about James' parentage or siblings.  What I do know is that he died 8 Jan 1887 at the age of 62 (according to the civil death records at IrishGenealogy.ie).  I've estimated a year of birth around 1825 and year of marriage to Elizabeth O'Rorke around 1850.  James was a farmer in Alderford.  Does any of this info sound familiar to you?

    Regards, Linda

  • Hi Linda, Thank you for your response. I wrote a long reply yesterday evening but it would not send and it has disappeared!!! Anyways I wonder if James/ your 2xg-grandfather and my 2xg-grandmother Jane Phibbs were siblings. A William Phibbs was a sponsor at her first son's baptism and a Bridget was a sponsor at her second son's baptism. I'd love to know more but the census for 1851, 61,71, 81 & 91 are no longer available for Roscommon. Shame!! Jane was born in 1838, thirteen years after James but that would not have been unusual in big families! Any ideas where to go from here?? Must take a trip to Alderford!! I am in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo, are you in Ireland? Thanks again for your help. Warm regards, Orla.
