My paternal great grandfather was Bryan/ Bernard McGaughran, 1832-1885. His father was Terence (Mc) Gaughran. His mother was Ann Sheridan, from Oldcastle, Cavan/Meath. A Baptismal record from July 2, 1832 from Kilbride and Mountnugent Parish, Westmeath, Meath and Cavan pertains to Bryan or possibly a sibling. Bryan emigrated to New York City in the 1850's. I first find him listed as a Mason. He married Catherine Teresa (Katherine) Smith (Smyth) 1839-1903, in New York City. This may have been his 2nd marriage, her first. Bryan and Catherine had two children, Bernard, who died in infancy and Rose Ann, my beloved paternal grandmother, b. 1875 - 1962, New York City. Bryan died in New York City 1885. Catharine (Kate) McGaughran remarried Reilly, after 1885.

  • Hello irelandxo. I'm planning a June/July trip to Ireland and will visit Oldcastle. My gggrandmother Anne Sheridan, 1789-1875 came from Oldcastle. Her son Bryan McGaughran is one of my 'mystery' men. I believe Anne's husband and Bryan's father was Terence (Mc)Gaughran. I have no other confirmed siblings for Bryan. Who can I contact when I come into town?

    Many thanks,

    Mary Beth W. Dimarco
