Catherine was daughter to Patrick Lydon and Bridget Coyne. She was born about 1840 in Townland of Moyard in Civil Parish of Ballynakill, county Galway, Ireland. Catherine married Taghd "tady" Coyne about 1856 and had two children, John Francis in 1858 and Bridget Catherine on 1860 before they left for America arriving in NYC in March 1862. They settled in Marcellus, Onondaga county in upstate New York. 6 more children were born there. In 1869, her sister Jane Lydon married Thomas Thornton in Ballinakill chapel in Renvyle with her brother, Michael, as witness. then Jane and Thomas and the Lydon parents joined everyone in Marcellus. another brother, Patrick Jr and sister Mary were already there also. Tady died oin 1911 and Catherine sold the farm and moved to Syracuse NY to love with her youngest daughter, Sarah Jane and died there in 1919.

  • Great info! Is that photo actually of Tady and Catherine? I noticed the photo file is labeled as Matilda and John Coyne.

  • yes it is Tady and Catherine. my family had thought it was my great grandparents, John Coyne (Tady's son) and his wife Matilda Gleason but years ago i found an older photo of Tady and Catherine with her parents (their stories also posted, Patrick Lydon and Bridget Coyne) and Catherine is identical in both photos and Tady is heavier in the professionally posed photo that you mention. guess i forgot to change the file name! haha

  • no problem. love talking about my Coyne and related families. got to visit where they lived in Ballynakill last. June. almost everyone i met there was named Coyne or Lydon so definitely the right place.
