No parish records for Kilcar are extant before 1848. He was probably born 1825 or earlier. May have been a son of Patrick Dugan since he named his first known son Patrick. Married Mary Doherty (no marriage record found, but she is named in bp records of the children and their Ohio death records). Was the father of seven children: Patrick, Hannah, Catherine, Anna, Daniel, Ellen, and Bridget. All of the children except Ellen went to Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. No record has been found for Ellen after her baptism. The baptisms for the last four children are found in Kilcar parish records. They name the residence as Letter.

Daniel appears as Daniel Duggan junior in Letter on Griffith's Valuation. Also in Letter were Patrick Dugan (possibly Daniel's father) and Daniel Duggan senior (possibly his uncle).
