Daniel Francis Hilferty was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa to Hugh Hilferty (Helferty) and Catherine McFadden.  He served in World War II in the Pacific theatre, his wife Rose also served for approximately one year in the Women's Corp working in a munitions factory.  Daniel enjoyed playing golf and loved socializing with his best friend and cousin, Hugh McFadden. Daniel worked hard all his life.  He was a loving father and grandfather and is warmly remembered and missed.

Daniel's father Hugh Hilferty was born in Skerry, Donegal on an 8 acre plot just south of Lough Keel.  Hugh's father died in 1892, and two years after his death, the entire Helferty family emigrated to Philadelphia.  Hugh's mother Ellen (McClafferty) had nine children (John, Daniel, Catherine, Anne, Patrick, Hugh, James, Mary, and Michael).  Ellen died in 1915.

Daniel' mother Catherine McFadden was born in Golan, Donegal to Michael McFadden and Mary McFadden.  Catherine emigrated to the U.S. in 1911 and married Hugh Hilferty in 1916.  Hugh and Catherine had 4 children (Michael, Daniel, John, and Catherine).
