Denis Shea was born in 1797 in Glenbeigh, Kerry to Honora Barrett and Daniel Shea. Denis married Mary Hagan in Glenbeigh in 1818. He was transported to Australia aboard Blenheim in 1834 for sheep stealing. His wife Mary and her three children, Daniel, Gobonel ( Abigail) and Nancy (Ann) joined him in Australia in 1849 and they settled in the Bathurst area. Denis died in 1858 when his dray overturned near Bathurst on his way home after selling potatoes.
