Elizabeth Carroll Williams is my maternal grandmother and last lived in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York, USA. She was born on Septemaber 22, 1876 in Elphin, Roscommon, Ireland and came to the USA (probably Boston) when she was about twenty or a teen. Her father was Mark Carroll and her mother was Bridget Kelly Carroll. She had several brothers and sisters John, Helen, Margaret, Mark, James, Bernard, Bridget, Matthew, Patrick and James. Many of them came to the USA but I think Patrick, Bridget, Matthew and maybe Bernard may have stayed in Ireland. I was educated in Elphin , left some time ago , wasn’t aware of any Carroll family in that region , However I asked my sister about this surname, & sure enough she knows a Mary , now a Brady . If you look up Brady undertakers Main Street Elphin , you will find Cathal’s business & Mary is his wife . We don’t know of other Carroll’s in that area , although Mary would be more knowledgeable.
