Ellen McCabe nicknamed "Nelly" was born in July 1835 in County Monaghan Ireland to John McCabe born about 1795 in County Monaghan, Ireland and Catherine Duffy also born in Ireland about 1795.  She had at least five siblings: Peter McCabe born about 1815 in Doagh, Magheracloone, County Monaghan who died in March 1919 in Carrickmacross who married Catherine Agnew born in 1815; Henry McCabe born about 1816 in County Monaghan who died Oct 31, 1898 in Cornalara, County Monaghan who married Frances McGee born about 1813; Owen McCabe born about 1825 who married Catherine Smith born about 1825; and sister Catherine McCabe born about 1835 in Magheracloone, County Monaghan who married James Hand born in 1824 in Carrickmacross.

Ellen McCabe immigrated to New York, New York sometime in 1857, before July 7, 1857 which was the date she married her husband Peter McCabe also a County Monaghan Irish immigrant who was born about 1832.  (I'm not sure if Ellen McCabe and Peter McCabe were cousins or not). They married on July 7, 1857 at St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church in New York City. Witnesses were Peter Duffy and Elizabeth McCabe.  (I am guessing that the witnesses were relatives of the bride and groom). Ellen's husband Peter McCabe worked as a milk dealer in Manhattan and the couple had 10 children. The children were: Mary A.E. McCabe born in 1859 who died unmarried at age 27; Simon McCabe born in 1860 who died as an infant; James J. McCabe born June 5, 1862 who invented a Lathe that used interchangeable parts called the McCabe Lathe which was sold worldwide and used in many different capacities. He had a company McCabe Machinery business.  James J. McCabe married Marcella Aloisuia Gardner born in 1868 in New York City and had five children; Peter A. McCabe born May 31, 1866 who never married and worked as a machinist and machinery dealer with his brother James at the McCabe machinery company; Adam McCabe born in 1869 and may have died as a teenager; Kathryn "Kate" Ellen McCabe born Aug 1869 who married John Ambrose Finnin and had two children Marie Cecillia Finnin born in 1890 and Francis Henry Finnin born in 1891.  Kathryn "Kate" Ellen McCabe later married Martin Graney; Edward F. McCabe born Jul 1870 who married Elizabeth (not sure her maiden name; Elizabeth A. McCabe born in 1871 who died in 1885 known as Lizzie; Michael McCabe born in 1873 who died in infancy; Cecelia B. McCabe born September 20, 1876 who died in July 1971 and who was a school teacher and never married; Harry Paul McCabe born Jan 13, 1880 who married Annie E Donnellan born in 1880 and they had a daughter Eleanor Cecillia McCabe born October 31, 1913 who married James Tague born in 1909 and they moved to California. Harry also worked with the McCabe machinery business and lived in New Rochelle.

Ellen McCabe's husband Peter McCabe passed away May 13, 1900 and by 1908, Ellen McCabe had moved up to New Rochelle, north of New York City and lived there with her son Peter A. McCabe and daughter Cecelia McCabe who were both unmarried. As I mentioned earlier, Peter worked with his brother James in the machinery business and Cecelia worked as a schoolteacher. In 1910, Ellen's granddaughter Maria Finin was also living with her in New Rochelle per the US Census of 1910.  Ellen passed away at age 82 at her home at 82 Maple Avenue, New Rochelle on October 24, 1917 of valvular lesions and a cerebral hemorrhage.  She was buried at Calvary Cemetery October 26, 1917 in Woodside, Queens, New York in a family plot with her husband and most of her children are also buried there.
