  • I have her as Elizabeth Frances, however most records show her just as Fanny. She was the daughter of Stephenson Whitten (the Registrar in Kinlough) and Elizabeth Frances Johnston.  She married James Johnston (the son of Robert Johnston and Mary Jane Clancey) on 15 Jan 1896 in the Parish Church of Rossinver (COI).  They had 11 children.  Mary Elizabeth, their 3rd child married Alexander Shaw Finney on 31 July 1929 also at the Parish Church of Rossinver.

Fanny's sister, Susan Whitten married Robert Mackey, the son of James Mackey and Rachel Johnston and emigrated to the US settling first in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and then in Torrington, Connecticut.  Robert was my great-uncle.  There were a number of marriges between Whittens and Johnstons.

  • Hi Alexander Shaw was my Grandmothers brother we always called his wife Molly of course her proper name was Mary Elizabeth. I knew she had a large family as her son Desmond Finney visited with a Tommy Whitten in Kinlough.
