FRANK HENRY, b 1813 or 1816, Sligo. Emigrated to England, eventually to the Yorkshire area. Occupation: Bricklayer. Probably (not certain) he married in England by 1849. One known daughter, Bridget b 10 Nov 1851. Bridget married in 1872 to Alfred Clark of London, to Chicago later that year. They are my great great grandparents. I suspect there was a son Robert Henry born in England.

Frank Henry is found in 1871 Yorkshire census widower, 55, plaster's laborer WITH a Robert Henry, bricklayer (assumed son b abt 1850 in Scarborough).

ALSO 1881 Eng  census Northamponshire, Bridlington Workhouse; widower, 68, former bricklayer. Not known when he died.

ALSO 1883, workhouse admission, Holborn, London.

Many Henry DNA matches suggest relatives are still in Sligo as well as Henry family born in England. Several Henry men emmigrated to the east coast of the US.

Associated surnames through DNA matches are Flannagan, O'Hara, Murphy and possibly Ryan. All in Sligo or Mayo. May be associated with Achonny parish/Killedan.  I'm trying to find his parents in Sligo or Mayo.

  • One of my ancestors was born in 1907 in Cloonacool, Sligo and his name was Francis Henry.  He had 9 siblings and they all moved to the US on the east coast in the 1920s leaving behind their farm.  Frank's father (b1849 or 1850), and I believe his grandfather (b1811) & his great grandfather  (b1780) were all named, Walter Henry.  Could this be your gggrandfather?
