My grandmother was born in Milltown Co. Tipperary - Cullen/Lattin parish on August 3rd1875. Her parents were Bartholomew Griffin & Honora Ryan. They had 4 other children John born 1873 ,Bridget born 1877, Daniel born 1881 & William born 1883.
She immigrated to New York in 1901, right before the census was taken.
Bartholomew's father was John Griffin who died in 1855. His wife was Hannah [we can't find her last name]. John's father was William Griffin - we have no information other then the tithe & land reports that show him on the same Milltown farm back as far as the 1820's. We also do not know his wife's name. They farmed 2 plots of land 8 & 8a off of Cullen rd in Milltown.

John Griffin , from Milltown, Cullen, born in 1873, a bachelor farmer, died 29th March 1940 at Abbey St, Tipperary Town. Cause of death was stomach cancer and cardiac failure. Present at his death was William Ryan of Longstone, Cullen.

in the first half of the 20th century there were Griffin families living in close proximity to Cullen in the townlands of Ballinulty, Rathduff, Cloonmanagh and Miltown. All, unfortunately, are now gone. John Griffin, a single farmer of the Miltown family died in March 1940 in a nursing home in Tipperary Town. He had lived in a small house, demolished about ten years ago. Cullen soccer club was formed in 1982, it played its early matches in the field in which this galvanized house was situated. It lay quite close to the Oola road, just below the Castle Cottage. The executor of John's will was William P. Ryan of Longstone. I think he is Willie Ryan's (Den) grandfather. The land came into the possession of a relative of mine, Mary Riordan, Ballyrobin. She left it to my grandfather, James Riordan and he then sold it to his first cousin, Con Riordan. He died in 1981 and the land was then sold to the present owner, Bobby Bradshaw, Rathduff.
John Griffin's youngest brother, William, also went to the US about 1907. His father, Bartholomew Griffin, was married to Hanoria Ryan, possibly of Longstone. In Griffith Valuation (1849), John Griffin (bartholomew's father}is farming the land and his father, William, is the occupier in the Tithe Applotment list (1826). Of course, the family can be found in the 1901 and 1911 Census returns for Miltown.

This is very helpful in my search.My grand mother's sister Bridget & brother Daniel are my next targets.They are my best chance that the Griffin line extended.Their brother William may have died young in New York.I am also looking into the Ryans of Longstone.What an adventure.Thanks again for your help.I am going to owe alot of people lunch when I make it to Ireland!
