Born in Ireland in 1849 to Peter McMahon and Ann Quinn. Immigrated to Boston with parents and siblings (Hugh, Eliza, Bridget) in 1854. They settled in Lowell, Mass and can be found in the 1855 Massachusetts census and the 1860 US census. In 1865, the family moved to Minnesota and settled in Meeker County with other Irish Catholic immigrants in Manannah. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manannah,_Minnesota. Peter and Ann died in Minnesota in the 1880s. James is found on the 1880 US census living with his wife Mary and their children in Minnesota. Sometime between 1880 and 1900, the family moved back to Massachusetts and lived the rest of their lives in Lowell.
