James Philip McLaughlin was born on July 19, 1852, in Aghafin townland, Roscommon, Ireland, to Philip and Brigid nee Henry McLoughlin. James married Bridget A Barry on November 27, 1878, in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA. They had eight children in 12 years. He was a close friend of Eamon de Valera, and died on July 11, 1935, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, at the age of 82.
