James Turley was born 13 June 1856 to James Turley and Ellen Turley nee Fallon.  He was baptised 10 July 1856 Clontuskert Parish, County Galway and his sponsors were his Uncle Michael Turley 1840-1910 and Aunt Honoria Turley 1842-1893 (his father's siblings).  He married June 1884 a Bridget Guinan.  Their children born there were Mary 1885, Patrick Joseph 1887-1952, John Augstin 1889-1952, Agnes Delia 1891-1979, James Christopher 1894-1964, Frank James 1896-1980, Margaret 1898 and Helen Monica 31 Aug 1900.  Bridget died giving birth to Helen. 

His chilren Mary and Patrick Joseph came to New York in 1907.  Sons John Augustin and James Christopher came to New York in 1908.  James and the remaining children came to New York in 1910.  

On 4 Oct 1923 he married Susan Walsh Finn (1875-1931).  He passed away 9 May 1946 NYC. 

James's father was James (Jacobus) Turley b. abt. 1810 d. 1873 Ballinasloe.  Abt. 1839 in Clontuskert he married Ellen Fallon (1819-1892).  Their children were:  Michael 1840 Clontuskert d. 1910 New Jersey; Honoria 1842 Clontuskert d. 1893 unk location; John b. 1845 Contuskert, Partick 1849 Clontuskert d. 1914 (?) Ireland, Thomas b. 1852 Clontuskert, James Turley (1856-1946) and Margaret Mary b. abt 1853 and married a Michael Smyth.

  • Wow. This is my Great Grandfather!  My grandfather was Frank James, later Francis John Turley Sr. as my father (1931-1973) was Francis John Turley Jr.  My son is named John Francis in their honor. I wish this picture was a bit more clear. Handsome man! :-)

  • Hey Lizzie,

     

    I found this photo among my dad's (Joseph Leo Turley) few pictures that I managed to get hold of.  I am his daughter, Kathy Turley Stevens, and we met a few years ago through email when I was moving from MA to OH.  Dad had names on the back of the picture as it was a family visit from Great Grandpa and a few others but it was hard to match names with faces.  The picture was taken in 1944.
