John COYNE parents Martin Coyne and Mary Walsh, farmers at Clifden. Different documents indicate birth date of 1826-1834. In 1849 - supposedly 15 yrs old so born c1834. Age on death cert 84 yrs so born c1828. Age on cemetery headstone 86 yrs so born c1826.

31st Mar 1849: Dublin newspaper the 'Galway Vindicator' reported the conviction of many men and women including John Coyne, recorded as John CAYNE, convicted of sheep stealing. Also interesting to note that others with the surnames Keane and Walsh were also convicted - all Clifden names.

Spent time in gaol at Smithfield in Dublin. Then transported per 'Phoebe Dunbar' in 1853 to Western Australia. He and his older brother Thomas COYNE born c1819 (also a convict per 'Robert Small' in 1853) became successful farmers at Irishtown, near Northam in Western Australia - about 100kms from Perth.

John Coyne died 6th Jul 1912 and was buried at Northam Cemetery with wife Catherine Coyne, nee Cosgrove.
