John Craig was born in Gibraltar, Spain where his father Thomas Craig was a Sergeant in The Royal Artillery.

As a child John was taken to Ireland, where he was brought up.

John Craig married Catherine Foster on March 26th 1861, Parish Church in the Parish of Monkstown in the Co. Dublin. 

Catherine Foster date of birth: 9 April 1837.

James Foster and James Craig were a witness to the marriage. James Foster was a Car Proprietor and he lived at Foster Place, Dublin.

The Banns were read 20th February 1861, at the Registrars's office in the Town of Kingstown in the District of Rathdown, Dublin.

 Witness to this event: Thomas Hilton and Sarah Nowlan.

John's occupation was a Carpenter and address: Shamrock Place, Dublin.

John and Catherine had a daughter: Catherine Christina Craig, born 5 January 1862, Kingstown, Parish of Monkstown, Dublin.

All three emigrated to Queensland, Australia 1863 where two more children were born. Three years later  they moved to New Zealand, where they had 4 more children.
