Born in Belfast- not sure where exactly. Migrated to Norwood, South Australia, Australia. Married Martha (also known as Patty?) Etherington in Norwood on 30.11.1882 and was aged 32 on marriage certificate (attached). Occupations of John included painter and possibly Barrister. John and Martha both lived into their 80s. John’s father was Joseph Wallace. John’s father in law was Matthew Etherington. John’s daughter was Violet Wallace (born in 1894) Violet married William Robertson McGeorge in Sydney, NSW, Australia on 21.2.1918 (copy of marriage certificate attached).
Based on his marriage certificate I have calculated John Wallace’s birth year to be 1850 or 1849 as he was 32 on 30th November 1882. He married Martha Etherington who may have also gone by the name of Patty. Martha is listed as being 22 on the marriage certificate so was born on either 1860 or 1859. John and Martha migrated to South Australia and were married In Norwood, South Australia. John’s occupation is listed as painter on the certificate but my mother (Marjorie Jean McGeorge-dob 30.4.1923 who is now deceased) said he was also a Barrister. My mother also told me that both John and Martha lived into their 80s. John’s father on the marriage certificate was Joseph Wallace and Martha’s father was Matthew Etherington. My mother told me that Matthew Etherington was a squire form York, Yorkshire.
I have been told by my cousin that this Joseph Wallace was John’s father but I’m not sure if that’s the case:

I was told by my mother that John Wallace and Joseph Wallace were from Belfast but I’m not sure exactly where they lived in Belfast.
John and Martha Wallace’s daughter Violet married William Robertson McGeorge (from Edinburgh) in Sydney on 21st (or 22nd- there are 2 dates on the certificate) February 1918 at St Peter’s Church in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Based on the date of marriage and their ages as listed on the certificate Violet was born in 15.1.1894 and William was born on 21.1.1889. My mother said that Violet had a sister called Nellie who married Frank Jeffery and their daughter was called Lois.
I don’t know the religious affiliation of any of these ancestors.
