  • Children:  1. Edmund O'Doherty baptised 3/11/1886 at Anacarty/Donohill. Sponsors were Jeremiah and Ellen Ryan. I have no furthur information about Edmund. He may have immigrated before the rest of the family but I cannot find him in the census. He may have stayed in Ireland.

    2. Mary O'Doherty, baptised 22/10/1888 in Anacarty/Donohill. Sponsors were Edmund and Margaret Ryan. Mary immigrated to New York in May, 1908. She married John Patrick Miles and had one son: John Courtney Miles, b. 1914 in Brooklyn. Mary died in 1964 in New Jersey. Burial at Calvary Cemetary.

    3. Catherine (Kate) Doherty, baptised 23/7/1890 in Cappawhite. Sponsors were Johanna and Philip Doherty. Kate immigrated in May, 1908. She married Patrick Joseph Moran in Brooklyn and  had children Edward, b. 1923, Joseph b. 1919 and Margaret, b. 1917.  Kate is Deceased.

.4. William Doherty, baptised 29/6/1892 in Cappawhite. Sponsors were Edmond Doherty and Bridget Ryan. William immigrated in May, 1908. He lived in Manhattan and worked on the docks. William died in 1940.

    5. Bridget Doherty, baptised 28/3/1894 in Cappawhite. Sponsors were Morgan and Alice Ryan. I have no furthur information about Bridget. She does not appear to have immigrated to NY with her parents and Mary, Kate and William.

Julia and Jeremiah lived in Moheragh when eldest children were born and in Crossayle when three younger children were born.

Julia worked as a ticket taker for the BMT in Brooklyn.  She died on 14/11/1925 in Brooklyn, NY. Burial is at St. Johns Cemetary in Queens, NY.  Death record shows her father as a William Ryan.

  • Do you know if Julia Ryan had any siblings?  I'm looking for information about my grandmother's father, Edward Ryan, who came as a child, the youngest of 3 boys, with his mother and father.  Sadly the mother died soon after arriving and Ed was sent with his brothers to live with aunts in Montreal.  I believe the father was named John Ryan- I don't know what his wife was named.

  • I don’t know yet as so far I have only found her with her husband and children but I think she was from the same area since so many Ryan’s are sponsors to the children’s baptisms. If I find her earlier with her parents and possible siblings I will definitely add it to her profile. Where and when did they emigrate?

  • M. O'Herlihey, I just found the will for Julia Ryan's mother Mary Hays. She married William Ryan in 1855.  She died in 1873 in Bawnmore, Tipperary and was widowed at the time of her death. Julia was baptised on May 31, 1860 so she would have been 14 at the time of her mother's death. It appears that Guardianship was given to a Margaret Ryan of Clonyharp (Clonoulty) at her death. I am searching for Margaret Ryans from this area and there are several.
