Margaret Livingstone was born in County Down 1791.  The names of her parents are not known for certain, however John Livingstone (who lived nearby in Lanark County Ontario) is believed to be her brother and based on the Irish Naming pattern the father was also named John.  3 Aug 1821 John Livingstone was settled at McDonald's Corners on Conc 10 Lot 6E, Dalhousie Twp, Lanark County through Perth Military Settlement. Based on the birth in 1813 of the earliest known child (Mary), Margaret would have married Thomas HUGHES before 1811, in Ireland, likely County Down. Other children born in Ireland included Pierce 1824, Robert 1825, Elizabeth 1826, and Margaret 1828.  Because of the large gap, it is likely that there were other children.  The family emigrated shortly after that last birth, as her husband Thomas petitioned 29 Sept 1830 for lot  NE ½ Lot 14 Concession 10, South Sherbrooke Township Lanark County, north of Maberly Ontario. This is the present site of Laidley Cemetery, and about 20 km south west of McDonald's Corners.  Margaret and Thomas Hughes daughter Mary married John William Johnston at Maberly on 31 July 1838.  20 Jan 1847 son Pierce married Margaret Greer, in August of 1848 daughter Margaret married George Livingstone, and daughter Elizabeth married Stanley Briggs, then 16 Aug 1853 son Robert married Letitia Chambers at nearby town of Perth.  Margaret Livingstone Hughes died sometime after the 1861 census, her burial location is assumed to be unmarked grave in Laidley Cemetery
