Comments

  • Not sure which Mary Ann is the correct one:

Mary Ann Doran age 19 from Pallastown Carlow, came to Australia on 'Maria' arriving Sydney 29 June 1850

    OR

Mary Doran (Doren) age 15 from Kilkenny, came to Australia on New Liverpool arriving Melbourne 1849

    Both are Roman Catholic

My Mary Ann married Peter Curtis (former convict - 'William Jardine' to NSW 1838 and then 'Lady Franklin to Tasmania 1844). The marriage is supposed to have taken place in Melbourne in 1851, but unable to find records.

May Ann/Marianne went on to have 14 children (10 born in Victoria and 4 in South Australia). On her 3rd child's birth certificate it states she was from Wexford and maiden name Doran.

Marianne died in 1913 in Melbourne. Her death certificate states she is from Ireland and her father is listed as St John Power. One wonders if this is in reference to Sir John Power who may have funded the Orphanage from whence she came.
