    Hi

I am trying to determine if my Cronin family is from Derryvane, Inchigeelagh, Cork.
My 2G grandfather Jeremiah Cronin immigrated to the US in 1851.  No oral family history provides any clues to his home in Ireland other than he was from Cork.  His death record lists parents as Jeremiah Cronin and Honora Murphy.  He also married in Coachford in 1849, but I believe Coachford was a feeding center during the Famine that drew people from all of Wst Cork.  And I have found a 1821 birth record for a Jeremiah Cronin in Derryvane to a Jeremiah Cronin and Mary Murphy.
In my research I have found a Mary Cronin born about 1845 from Derryvane who's father was Jeremiah who married a James Droney in 1868.
Would that be the Mary Ellen Cronin you posted? If so, are you a direct descendent of your Mary Ellen and have you taken any DNA tests? Thank you, Bob Cronin

  • Hello, I do not know if my Mary Ellen is yours. What I 've researched is her from Youghal, Ireland and a marriage in the US, but no date. I do not have any info on her parents. I will see if your info connects any dots for me and let you know.  Hope you connect with your family.

  • Hi

       Thank you for responding.

I guess it is unlikely that my Mary and your Mary Ellen are the same person since my Mary married James Dromey in Cork, Ireland in 1868.  However, we still may be related.  If you find any connection to Derryvane, please let me know.
I also have my DNA recorded in Ancestry, GEDmatch and FamilyTree DNA.  If you have your DNA recorded in any of these, please let me know.  Also my email is Rfcronin@hotmail.com if you prefer to communicate that way.

    Thanks again,

    Bob Cronin

  • Bob,

I am also seeking information on my ancestors from Ireland. Many of them moved to New Brunswick from Cork in the early 1800’s. My Grandfather, Cecil Lane (1906-1994), was the son of James Tweedy Lane and Mary Francis Sweeney, my Great-grandparents.

Mary Francis was the daughter of Jeremiah Sweeney and Julia Bennet of Moncton, NB. (My great-Great grandparents).

Finally, Jeremiah was the son of James Sweeney and Mary Cronin (born in 1801). They were married in Ireland and moved to Canada in 1830.

I do not know where in Cork they are from. However, the Sweeneys and the Lanes lived together in New Brunswick and the Lanes are from Murraugh (Ballynamuck) in Co. Cork. William Lane moved to be with his brothers in 1822, it seems he was widowed at the time.

There are some great records in Moncton, New Brunswick if that helps. However, I would love more information on Mary Cronin, James Sweeney and even William Lane if possible!

    Thanks so much,

    Heather (Lane) Chauny
