We are searching for information regarding Mary/Maria Hedican born 1847 in County Clare. Writing is difficult to understand but it may be "Clauhaus/Clahane". Another very confusing fact - On the birth certificate of my grandfather born in Australia in 1873 it says, Maria Harper FORMERLY REICHEU; we do not understand the reference to this name. On her marriage certificate 1869 it has Mary born in Co. Clare father Michael and mother Margaret McNamara. On her death certificate her father is listed as Martin HEDIGAN and mother Mary Hedigan, maiden name Mary McNamara.
The certificate states that she had been in Victoria for 73 years which would indicate she arrived in Australia in 1859. If born in 1847 she would have been 12. We have no information who she travelled with and cannot find anyone of that name on passenger lists to Australia. We "think" she possibly travelled with a family as a servant and may have been listed as their name.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
